How to ensure a successful ERP implementation
Tip #2: Project Team Selection

This is the second in our series of 6 blogs offering guidance to help you be better prepared for your ERP implementation. The first examined the importance of data migration. In this blog we highlight the importance of project team selection. That is, choosing which of your colleagues should be involved in design, preparation, and testing of the new system.

Experience and Expertise

A well-chosen team brings together individuals with the necessary expertise and knowledge of your business. That expertise should span all areas that will be affected by the new ERP rollout. This ensures that the solution is designed correctly and that potential issues are identified and addressed early in the project.

Effective Communication and Collaboration

The success of an ERP implementation depends heavily on effective communication and collaboration among team members. A diverse team with representatives from different teams ensures that all perspectives are considered. It promotes a sense that all areas are benefitting from the new system rather than having it forced upon them. A project team that is trusted by colleagues encourages buy-in and ensures frictionless adoption of the new solution.

Commitment and Availability

Team members must be fully committed to the project to ensure it is delivered on time whilst hitting key targets and objectives.

We recognise that during an ERP implementation the client has a business to run. In the interests of long-term success, it is important to free up key project team members from some responsibility to ensure they can devote time and energy to the project.

A strong project team can help manage change, ensuring that colleagues are adequately trained and that the transition is as smooth as possible. Additionally, a well-selected team will identify and mitigate risks, helping to keep the project on track and within budget.

Take the next step

In the next blog in this series, we highlight the importance of developing realistic understanding of project timescales.
